An Enfield man was reportedly arrested as he was tearing copper and metal from a church, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.
The man, Antione Alexander Hunter, 26, was arrested at the scene at Antioch Baptist Church in Enfield, Detective Chris Scott said.
Shortly after 10:30 Saturday morning, the sheriff's office responded to a burglar alarm and reportedly found Hunter in the act of of removing assorted metal and copper from the church's HVAC units.
Hunter faces charges of felony larceny, possession of stolen goods and injury to real and personal property.
He was jailed on $10,000 bond and awaits a June 25 court date. Scott said more charges are possible.
“Thanks to the deputies quick response time to the church they were able to catch the suspect in the act of committing thefts,” Scott said.
