Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls Troop NC 0100 recently visited Vulcan Materials Stone Quarry in Skippers.

Troop NC 0100 has been learning about geology.

The youth learned about various materials which are mined and what the materials are used for as well as learning about Vulcan’s process for producing granite aggregate and Vulcan’s large machinery.

The youth also mixed and made concrete stepping stones and looked at different minerals using a microscope.

As a part of community service work, Troop NC 0100 made and delivered bluebird boxes to Vulcan Materials, which is a certified wildlife site. Troop NC 0100 is an adventure-based character building program for youth ages 5-18 meeting at 7 East Second Street in Roanoke Rapids on Mondays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
