The Halifax County Sheriff's Office made two marijuana arrests Saturday, both in Roanoke Rapids.
One was during a warrant service, and the other following a vehicle stop.
In both, a total of 5.5 grams was seized, according to news releases from Major Scott Hall.
Around 11 p.m. Deputy Graham Page visited a Thomas Jefferson Drive address looking for Demonta Nelvon Banks, 19, for an outstanding order for arrest issued by the courts.
Page located Banks at home. While interviewing Banks regarding the order for arrest, Banks was allowed to return inside the home to retrieve his shoes.
While both Banks and Page were in his room, the marijuana aroma was reportedly overwhelming. Page secured the home and filed for a search warrant for the address.
Deputy Page allegedly located a glass smoking pipe, digital scales, marijuana seeds, and approximately .5 grams of marijuana inside the bedroom.
Banks was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an order for arrest for failure to appear in court.
Banks was placed in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $4,000 secured bond and was given an April 23 court date.
Meanwhile, shortly before 3:45 a.m., Page stopped a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice for an equipment violation on West Kerr Road and found Jamall Jermaine Johnson, 20 of Hollister, operating the vehicle.
During the stop, a search of the vehicle was performed and approximately 5 grams of marijuana was reportedly found in the center console.
Johnson was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is free on a $500 bond.
