A Sunday night fire caused no serious damage on Faison Drive in Gaston but had firefighters concerned whether residents were home as flames and smoke came out of a baby's room.
Fire units, according to a statement from Gaston Fire Chief Ed Porter Jr., were dispatched to the Gaston housing projects shortly after 9:45 p.m.
Bystanders and Gaston police found the occupant's vehicle in the driveway, but were unsure if anyone was home.
Firefighters breached the front door, one crew attacking the fire while another searched for residents. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found no one home.
Gaston and Garysburg firefighters had the fire contained and search completed within 10 minutes.
Gaston and Northampton County EMS provided rehab.
The cause of the fire, according to Porter, is believed to be a faulty air conditioning unit in the window of the baby's room.
The American Red Cross arrived to provide living assistance while the apartment is repaired.
Porter said there was smoke damage and a little fire damage from the window unit.
