A Roanoke Rapids woman hired by the victim to clean her house was charged this morning with exploiting the elderly.

Halifax County Sheriff's Office Detective J.M. Clark began an investigation Monday into Belinda Kaye Beckett, 45, allegedly taking money from the victim.

The investigation revealed Beckett allegedly took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim.

While not disclosing the amount of money taken, Clark said it was enough to hurt someone on a fixed income financially like the victim in the case.

Clark charged Beckett with exploitation of an elderly person, larceny and possession of stolen property.

She was additionally served a warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on an unrelated matter.

She was given a $5,000 bond and January 22 court date.
