Nearly 8 ounces of pot was almost flushed down the toilet today but ended up seized by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.
The seizure of the approximately 224 grams of marijuana began shortly before 6 p.m. when deputies J. Langley, B. Biggerstaff, D. Newsome and A. Smith were in the Lincoln Street area of Lincoln Heights looking for a man on a domestic warrant.
While canvassing the area, according to Lieutenant Anzell Harris, the deputies went to the residence of Barbara Jean Bunn. While Langley was talking to the woman, Harris said he reportedly could smell the odor of marijuana inside the residence. The woman reportedly admitted she had just smoked and gave the deputies consent to come inside.
Langley found Mrs. Bunn's son, Cordaryl Lamar Bunn, in the bathroom, allegedly attempting to flush the weed down the toilet.
Harris said Mr. Bunn was caught before he was able to flush the marijuana, which had a street value of between $900 to $1,000.
Narcotics Agent D.C. Dickens, with assistance from Deputy M. Brown and his dog Mallie, helped to seize the 224 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and several marijuana butts, commonly called roaches.
Mrs. Bunn was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and has a November 25 court date. Her son faces charges of felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was jailed on $10,000 bond and has an October 23 court date.
