The Halifax County Sheriff's Office this morning is reporting an influx of car break-ins over the last five days.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp said in a statement they have been done in the West Tenth Street and Zoo Road areas of Roanoke Rapids in the late night or early morning hours.

Patrols will be in effect to counter the break-ins but Tripp encourages residents to check their property and their neighbor's by making frequent checks on their vehicles and to look for suspicious vehicles in the neighborhood as a suspicious vehicle was seen leaving one area. This, Tripp said, is an indication the break-ins may not be limited to foot traffic.

Vehicles should be locked and kept in well-lit areas if possible. Items of value should not be left in plain view or stored inside vehicles as firearms and electronics have been stolen.

Investigators are working on the cases and anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at 252-583-1991 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
