A string of daylight breaking, entering and larcenies has prompted the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office to issue safety tips to citizens.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp said the crimes are occurring across the county and the majority of them occur when no one is home.

Items of value have been taken, but Tripp declined to elaborate as an investigation into the matter continues.

Tripp advises to be observant when returning home, paying close attention to anything suspicious or beyond normal. “Please call 911 and wait for a deputy to respond before entering. It’s suggested that serial numbers of valuables be documented.  Secure items that normally may not be secured.”

Tripp said the sheriff’s office requests that neighbors look out for neighbors and to call if communities are interested in establishing Neighborhood Watch programs.

Anyone with information on the break-ins is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 or the sheriff’s office at 252-583-8201.

Call the sheriff’s office number if interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch program.
