The Halifax County Sheriff’s is trying to determine the motive behind a Sunday morning shooting in the Lincoln Heights community where the alleged suspect remains at large.

Sergeant Paul Ward and Deputy Graham Page responded to a call around 3:30 a.m. and found the victim at a residence on Key Street, according to Chief Deputy Wes Tripp.

The victim was shot several times. He said the shooting occurred as he was walking down a path in the area.

Halifax County EMS transported the man to a hospital where he was treated and expected to recover.

Lieutenant Rich Somogyi responded and assisted in the investigation, which has led to arrest warrants issued for Keyon Quarice West, 18, of Roanoke Rapids.

The warrants charge West with assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.

West is known to frequent areas of Roanoke Rapids and Northampton County.
