A Roanoke Rapids man died Monday from injuries sustained in a Friday afternoon car crash in Northampton County.

The state Highway Patrol received notification Monday that James Hill, 24, died.

Trooper N.T. Hanline noted in an initial report the single-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Bryantown Road in the Jackson area.

Hill was traveling south when he ran off the road to the left and struck a tree.

He was trapped in the car before help arrived and it took rescue personnel an hour to an hour and a half to get him out.

There were no contributing factors to the wreck aside from apparent driver inattention.
