A Bailey man who has allegedly stolen thousands of pounds of wire in the last six months is behind bars in Franklin County without the opportunity for bond.
Douglas Charles Wood Jr., 35, has allegedly stolen wire in Halifax, Nash and Franklin counties.
Detective Rich Somogyi of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Wood is reportedly responsible for the theft of copper wire from Progress Energy utility poles in the Littleton area and the theft of wire from Halifax Electric Membership poles along the Drapers Road area in Enfield.
Somogyi noted in a press release he has been investigating other cases in the county where copper has been stolen for the past six months.
Investigation led to the arrest of Bailey, who was later released on a secured bond.
Continued investigation following his release led to more charges at the end of this week, as well as charges in Nash and Franklin counties representing 14 cases with additional charges pending.
Somogyi charged him with two counts of injury to utility wires, two counts of felony larceny and two counts of possession of stolen goods.
He was jailed in Franklin County for probation violation.
Somogyi said Wood has allegedly been stealing wire for some time in the three counties and has probably stolen thousands of pounds.
