The Halifax County Sherriff’s Office this evening continues to investigate a shooting that occurred on the parking lot of the Community Marathon station off Highway 158 near Zoo Road.
Lieutenant Scott Hall said the motive of the shooting, which occurred shortly before 9:15 p.m., appears to be robbery.
The victim, who was on the lot of the store, was shot once and taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Investigators are working leads to determine a suspect. The victim was potentially going into the store as a customer before the robbery and was shot.
The victim was taken to the hospital on a private vehicle and a condition was not immediately known, Hall said.
Investigators at the hospital cordoned off the vehicle with crime scene tape looking for clues.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
Assault
Hall also confirmed there was an unrelated assault that occurred on Pinewood Road, which is off Colonial Drive. Hall said a person was in custody but had no further information.
