Roanoke Rapids police early this morning apprehended a Massachusetts fugitive at the Motel 6.
Roanoke Rapids and other area agencies were notified shortly before 2:30 a.m. to be on the lookout for Daniel Rodriguez, who was possibly traveling south on Interstate 95. The parole board of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts entered him as a wanted person.
Lieutenant Andy Bryant was on routine patrol this morning when he noticed a Mercedes in the parking lot of Motel 6 matching the description and tag numbers given in the notice.
Bryant’s investigation determined Rodriquez was staying at the motel and A Squad, the police department’s special response team and Criminal Investigation Bureau took the man into custody without incident.
Rodriquez was placed in the Halifax County Jail without the opportunity for bond and is awaiting extradition back to Massachusetts.
While it is unclear what Rodriquez was on probation for, Roanoke Rapids police said prior charges include assault counts with weapons and narcotics violations.
