A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Monday evening after his 2-year-old child was nearly struck by a car on Chockoyotte Street and his 1-year-old wandered to a parking lot near Premier Boulevard.

Roanoke Rapids police said Officer Roy Ball responded to a call shortly after 8:30 p.m. that a 2-year-old child had nearly been struck by a car. Ball located the child and while investigating this call another call went out that a 1-year-old wearing diapers was on a parking lot around the Ichiban area. Officer Gerald Morris located that child.

Investigation revealed the children were related. The person responsible for them, Sean Cagle, 25, of Chockoyotte Street, was located and charged with two counts of child abuse.

Police declined further comment on the matter.

Cagle was jailed at the time on $5,000 bond and has a May 10 court date.
