The second report of a stolen dog in the Carolina Rest Home Road area in less than a month involves a Shih Tzu puppy named Snooki.

The theft took place in the Lone Oak Road area near Carolina Rest Home on Monday, according to Major Bruce Temple of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The theft took place around 3 p.m. The dog, which answers to Snooki, was taken from the owner’s yard. Other dogs were with Snooki in the yard but no attempt was made to steal them, leading Temple to believe the animal was stolen for its value.

“This tells me there is a dog thief in the area,” Temple said, although it is too soon to know whether it is related to the theft of a pit bull last month. “It is not restricted to that area. It goes from Enfield to Hollister and back to Roanoke Rapids.”

Temple said the sheriff’s office received a report within the last two weeks that a brindle pit bull was stolen from the Enfield area but no further information was available.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
