The installation of a video system by family members of a 90-year-old victim proved successful in the arrest of an Enfield man on breaking and entering charges Thursday.
Lieutenant Jerry D. Powell of the Enfield Police Department said the video system allegedly identified Jerome Barnes Jr. in the larceny of $60 from the victim around 8:30 a.m.
Barnes, 21, of South Dennis Street, allegedly waited while the woman was out feeding her cats to sneak into her house and remove money from her wallet.
The victim confronted Barnes but there was no violent confrontation between the two, Powell said.
The family installed the system after previous break-ins in which money was stolen. Similar crimes have happened at the resident at least three previous times.
“This serves as a reminder to keep your doors locked,” even when outside, the lieutenant said.
Barnes faces charges of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.
The relationship between Barnes and the victim is unclear, Powell said.
Barnes was jailed on $10,000 bond and has a March 6 court date.
