The Weldon Police Department is investigating the vandalism of a classroom at Weldon High School.

The vandalism, which included the writing of KIPP on a wall in red Dry Erase marker and the pouring of red soda on a computer and accessories, occurred sometime between 12:15 p.m. Friday and 9:42 a.m. Monday when it was reported.
Lieutenant C.G. Davis said entry to the school was gained by breaking a rear window.
The vandalism was contained to room 303. There was also damage to a window in the weight room but it appears the room was never entered.
In room 303 red soda was poured on a computer and the teacher’s desk. Two keyboards and a printer were also damaged.
It remains unclear why KIPP was written on the wall. Davis said it could be an attempt to throw police off the suspect trail.
It is also not clear why damage was contained to room 303. “I see no signs of there being any reason at this point,” Davis said.
The police department is waiting for a damage estimate from the school.
