An alleged domestic assault left the defendant hospitalized Monday night and facing charges.
Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy R.M. Brown responded to a call in Weldon where John Paul Harrison Jr., 42, was armed with a knife and locked himself in a bedroom.

Brown and deputies D. Radford and C. Scott determined Harrison, of Pleasant Hill, broke into the residence by kicking in the back door.
When deputies confronted Harrison, they were able to take him into custody without further injury to himself with the knife. Tripp declined to elaborate on whether the injuries were self-inflicted.
The investigation revealed that the residence was occupied at the time of the break-in.
A female was in her bedroom when she heard a loud noise from downstairs.
When she went to investigate she saw her brother chasing Harrison, who had a firearm, up the stairs.
The female attempted to call 911 but Harrison grabbed her arm holding the phone.
The female was able to flee from the residence with her children, as her brother continued to fight Harrison.
The brother was able to take the gun from Harrison and both ran outside.
Harrison re-entered the residence through the back door and grabbed three knives from the kitchen, locking himself in the bedroom.
Investigators discovered there was an active domestic violence protective order issued on Harrison.
The Weldon Police Department assisted and Harrison was charged with breaking and entering, assault on a female, domestic criminal trespass, domestic violence protective order violation with deadly weapon, interfere with emergency communications, assault, resist, obstruct, delay, injury to real property and possession of a firearm by felon.
Warrants have not yet been served, due to Harrison receiving medical attention.
Detective Lieutenant Scott Hall is continuing to investigate this to see if further charges may apply.
