A city man whose photograph was captured by an ATM camera last month is being held in Pender County on $235,000 bond for charges there and in Halifax County.
Locally, Christopher Lanier Burton, 35, of Williams Street, faces charges of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny, financial card theft and ID theft.
The local case involves him allegedly breaking into the victim’s vehicle and stealing a purse and debit card on December 16, according to Major Tommy Hathaway of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
Burton allegedly used the card on December 16 and 17 at the State Employees Credit Union ATM on East Tenth Street after discovering the personal identification number to the card was in the purse. He got more than $800.
Captain Jamie Ezzell of the Pender County Sheriff’s Office said Burton was charged in that county with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts felony larceny, two counts possession of stolen property, larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was also served a domestic protection order violation warrant from Halifax County.
Hathaway said Burton has family in Wilmington. Investigation by Captain Andy Jackson and tips helped allegedly tie Burton to the local crime.
