James M. Boone of Nash County has announced his withdrawal of interest in filling the vacancy in the Fourth Senatorial District of North Carolina.

“In a telephone conversation, he asked for me to convey his deepest appreciation for your time and consideration of his candidacy,” Senate District 4 Chair Don Davis in email correspondence with other committee members. “Minister Boone also shared with me his intent to continue working to help Democrats and advancing Democratic Party principles as he explores any future options.”

Currently, the list of interested residents being considered by the Fourth Senatorial District Executive Committee to fill this vacancy includes: current state House member Angela Bryant, Terry Garrison of Vance County, Charmaine McKissick-Melton of Warren County and Andrew Wirtz of Halifax County.

The Senate District 4 executive committee will convene Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mystique building on Highway 125 outside Roanoke Rapids to recommend a name for the governor to appoint.
