Another person has entered their name for appointment to Ed Jones’ state Senate seat.

Charmaine McKissick-Melton, chair of the department of mass communication at North Carolina Central University, asked to be considered for appointment over the weekend.

“I am a resident of Warren County,” she said in her letter of interest. “I have served on a number of civic organizations in a variety of positions including the Warren County Democratic Party and currently continue to serve as a commissioner on the Warren County Parks and Recreation Commission. I would be honored to serve in the new Senatorial 4th District seat.”

Her announcement brings the number of those interested to four. The list also includes current state Representative Angela Bryant, James M. Boone of Nash County and Terry Garrison of Vance County.

There is some concern that Boone has not met the length of registration requirement to run and that is being checked, according to a memo from Regina Dickens, Halifax County Democratic Party chair.

The Senate District 4 executive committee will convene Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mystique building on Highway 125 outside Roanoke Rapids to recommend a name for the governor to appoint.
