The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the larceny of 100 bales of hay an agriculture expert said is used mainly for horse feed.
Detective J. Sealey said the larceny of the alfalfa-Timothy Orchard Grass mix occurred sometime between December 20 and December 23 in the Enfield area.
It was in a storage area. Sealey said the value is close to, if not more than, $1,000.
Halifax County Cooperative Extension Director Arthur Whitehead said the mixture makes quality horse feed. A bale probably contains 50 to 60 pounds, he said.
Whitehead said most people who own horses already have a hay supplier and should exercise caution, “If someone starts selling it out of the blue.”
