A meeting outlining the process and timeline for filling the state senate seat of the late Ed Jones, who died December 14, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m.
The Senate District 4 meeting will be at the Mystique building on Highway 125, according to a letter from First Congressional District Chair Don Davis.
“Yesterday (Saturday), our dear friend, the late Senator Ed Jones, was laid to rest,” Davis said in the letter emailed to Democrats within the district as well as party leaders. “While moving forward is always difficult, Senator Jones shared with me that he wanted us to make a seamless transition.”
The information meeting is being held for the purpose of outlining the process and timeline of filling the vacancy in the Fourth Senatorial District. “The role and responsibilities of the executive committee members will be outlined as well as any questions of prospective candidates addressed.
“All interested candidates or designated representatives will be allowed to introduce themselves and briefly address those in attendance. I highly encourage you and any other interested parties to attend this very important meeting.”
The meeting will break a requested moratorium on campaigning that Davis requested in the letter. “Thus, it is very important that family-time is respected and Christmas is appropriately observed. I am further formalizing this request for interested candidates to refrain from campaigning until December 27 to ensure that all candidates remain on equal footing.”
