The Roanoke Rapids Police Club will be able to help four to five more children thanks to a benefit concert held at the Royal Palace Theatre tonight.

The Southern Tradition Band performed its show, called It’s Christmas, for $5 donations to the police club.

The show was a Christmas special and before the intermission children were called to the stage to tell what they wanted Santa to bring them and sing Jingle Bells with the band. Santa then made an appearance, giving the children candy canes.

This was the last in a series of fundraisers this year to help the police club raise money for its Christmas for Kids shopping spree as well as for programs planned this summer.

“Once again, we appreciate the community support for the police club projects,” said Major Tommy Hathaway. “We think with the donations in the last minutes before Christmas we’ll be able to help several more children have a happier and merrier Christmas.”

The police club has already identified four or five more children it wants to help Saturday, bringing the total during the drive to 30 to 35. “This was the most successful year we’ve had,” Hathaway said.

The police club also plans to help children with summer recreation and school supplies, he said.
