Weldon police are investigating a breaking and entering in which cigarettes were stolen from a Washington Avenue grocery store.

Lieutenant Chris Davis said the break-in occurred around 1 a.m. today when as many as three people knocked the glass out of the front door of the Weldon Supermarket.

The storeowner estimated nine cartons and five or six packs of cigarettes were taken.

Typically they are stolen for personal use or to sell, Davis said.
