A pickup Tuesday in the Operation Summer Heat Wave campaign included a child support absconder, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Court records show Derrick Devonte Bennett, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, owed past due child support of $3,312.
Agent J. Puhak said when Bennett was arrested he was walking on Carico Road in the P&J Trailer Court Community. The narcotics agents discovered he had one existing order for arrest and three child support orders for commitment.
Puhak said he and Agent A. Harris spotted Bennett shortly after 10:30 a.m.
He had warrants that originated during the Summer Heat Wave campaign and was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, sell marijuana, deliver marijuana and conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana.
Puhak said during the arrest effort Bennett wracked up more criminal charges after allegedly giving agents a fake identity and having marijuana packaged for sale.
His bond was set at $53,150 and he has a June 5 court date.
