A teacher’s aid has been charged with a June assault on a mentally challenged student at Northwest Halifax High School.
Detective J. Sealey of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said he did not know what prompted the alleged assault of a 16-year-old female student.
He said cause to charge 54-year-old Enfield native Dozine Williams Jones was corroborated through medical evidence and other investigative techniques.
Explaining the length of the investigation, Sealey said, “I would rather err on the side of caution because the victim is not verbal.”
The student was assaulted on both legs by use of hands, Sealey said. The victim received minor bruising to the leg area that was noted by the group home medical staff and reported to authorities.
Jones was charged with assault on a handicapped person and given a $1,000 bond.
She has a January 23 court date.
