A father and son’s attempt to get away with stealing a car on a trailer were thwarted this afternoon when the owner of the property spotted them, forcing them to flee in the woods.
After a 30- to 45-minute standoff in the woods off Bellamy Mill Road both Glen Hubbard, 60, and Ricky Hubbard, 42, surrendered, said Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
The matter occurred shortly after 1:15 p.m. off Bellamy Mill Road in the Enfield area when the sheriff’s office received a call that two males were stealing a car on a trailer that belonged to the victim.
Martin said the Hubbards came to the crime scene on a sport utility vehicle that was capable of towing a trailer.

Ricky Hubbard
The sheriff’s office responded to the area and with help from the state Highway Patrol was able to contain the area and keep the father and son in the woods.
Martin said Glen Hubbard, of Rocky Mount, surrendered to Deputy Travis Clark first while Ricky Hubbard, of Roanoke Rapids, surrendered to Agent Anzell Harris afterward.
The men were charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods. Ricky Hubbard was jailed on a $2,000 bond and because of an outstanding order for arrest stemming from a matter in superior court Glen Hubbard was jailed on a $20,000 bond. They both have December 19 court dates.
“The quick thinking of the victim to call law enforcement and keep the suspects in sight aided in their capture,” Martin said in a press release. “The sheriff's office would like to thank the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for their assistance.”
