A Jackson man was arrested over the weekend as a result of multi-jurisdictional investigation into sex offenses with a child.

Detective R. Rooks of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deberaux Motley, 59, was arrested by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Saturday with assistance from state Probation and Parole Officer R. Morris.

Motley was arrested at his house in Jackson without incident.

His arrest was based on an October 14 complaint that alleged sexual misconduct with a female child between 6- and 7-years-old, whom Motley was allegedly familiar with.

His arrest was the result of a joint investigation between Halifax and the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Rooks said the October complaint covered matters in Halifax and Rocky Mount where Motley allegedly touched the child inappropriately.

Motley was charged with first-degree sexual offense and indecent liberties with a minor in both Halifax County and Rocky Mount, Rooks said.

One offense allegedly occurred in Enfield while the other allegedly occurred in Nash County.

Motley has a December 19 court date in Halifax County under a $200,000 bond and a December 3 court date in Nash County on the same bond amount as in Halifax County.

Rooks said the offenses allegedly occurred within the time the complaint was received.

Probation and parole was involved because Motley does have a past criminal record.
