A man apparently going for a baseball bat he had allegedly been threatening his aunt with Wednesday was taken into custody after he was shot with a Taser.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said deputies Dreher Bozard, Willie Murphy, Thomas Sewell and Cody Dickens responded to Whitehead Road in the Enfield area.

The victim reported her nephew, identified as 27-year-old Timothy Bobbitt, was threatening with her with a baseball bat.

Tripp said it was unclear what caused the initial disturbance but did confirm Bobbitt was being verbally aggressive with his aunt.

The victim called back as deputies responded to say she left the residence and was with neighbors. She said she was concerned, however, for the safety of the officers because her nephew also had a shotgun in the house.

Deputies saw Bobbitt peeping through the front window when they arrived.

The deputies spoke with Bobbitt, who opened a door and partially came out.

Tripp said deputies rushed in to take Bobbitt in custody for the victim’s safety and their safety.

Bobbitt was aggressive and irate, Tripp said. The deputies spotted the baseball bat on a bed and when Bobbitt attempted to enter the room Bozard deployed his Taser and took the man into custody.

Follow-up investigation also led deputies to find several young marijuana plants.

Bobbitt was charged with three counts of resisting a public officer and one count each of communicating threats, manufacture marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed on $30,000 bond and has a November 14 court date.
