The Roanoke Rapids Police Department says it is exploring all possible leads in a morning robbery at Southern Bank on Tenth Street.

Major Tommy Hathaway said that includes a possible link that WITN reported involves an attempted bank robbery in Wayne County.

The North Carolina Bankers Association said the bank was held up around 10:40 a.m. when a man pointed a gun at employees and demanded money. The man was wearing a dark hooded jacket and a ski cap.

WITN reported that Tuesday a man tried to rob the Heritage Bank in Fremont just after lunch. Fremont Police Chief Paul Moats told WITN that after comparing photographs the same man robbed the bank today in Roanoke Rapids.

Moats told the station the man is wearing the same hooded sweatshirt in both surveillance photos. He says his department is now working with Roanoke Rapids police on the two cases.

In the Fremont case, police say the man tried to get into the bank through a locked door. Bank employees foiled the attempt by activating additional security measures.

The North Carolina Bankers Association offers a reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of any individuals who were involved.
