A Weldon man was arrested Monday on marijuana counts following a traffic stop.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Samuel Graham assisted Trooper M. Adair of the state Highway Patrol after the trooper found the driver, Antoine Delmont Williams, to allegedly be in possession of marijuana.

The 3 p.m. traffic stop was on Sam Powell Dairy Road at Farley Circle.

Lieutenant Tim Harris and his dog Josh were also called to the scene and found additional marijuana, plastic bags, digital scales and three packs of Dutch Masters cigars. A grinder was also seized.

Graham arrested Williams, 33, of Chestnut Street, for possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for keeping a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed on $100,000 bond and has a January 9 court date.

Asked why his bond was so high, Tripp said, “That’s the bond set by the magistrate.”

Williams does have several pending court dates in Halifax County and a previous criminal record, which could explain why the bond was set so high.
