A Tillery Correctional Center inmate was charged with possession of a controlled substance in prison following an investigation by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp said the substance is suspected of being marijuana.

Deputy R.M. Brown responded to the prison on September 29 after a prison officer located a green vegetable material cigarette in inmate Brandon Scott Deese’s shirt pocket.

Deese was brought to the sheriff’s office Thursday and given a $2,500 bond and November 7 court date.
