A man who suspected a person of stealing his property allegedly took matters into his own hands last week and beat the person reputedly responsible for the larceny.

The investigation by Deputy Danny Radford of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office not only led to the man being charged in the assault but the beating victim being charged in the larceny.

On September 23, Radford was dispatched to investigate an assault that occurred at a residence on Bush Court in Weldon, according to Chief Deputy Wes Tripp.

Tashawn Lamarte Harvey reported that he and a female left the residence and were traveling towards Wallace Fork Road when he noticed a vehicle approaching him from the rear at a high rate of speed.

Harvey stopped his vehicle and exited. Harvey told investigators a man, who was later identified as Alexander Hawkins Jr., who Harvey called Spoon, walked up and demanded the return of his property.

Hawkins allegedly began beating Harvey with the butt of a shotgun and then forced the man into his vehicle while making threats.

Hawkins drove Harvey to different locations to locate what he claimed at the time was his property.

That episode led Radford to charging Hawkins with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, second-degree kidnapping and communicating threats.

That landed Hawkins in jail with a $30,000 bond and a November 7 court date.

Radford continued to follow up on the investigation and on September 24 cleared up a breaking and entering that occurred five days earlier.

Radford doscovered Hawkin' property at Harvey's residence on Bush Court and was also able to arrest Harvey for Hawkins' break-in in Littleton.

The follow-up investigation also led to Harvey’s arrest on counts of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, felony conspiracy and larceny of a firearm.

Harvey was jailed on $7,500 bond and has an October 7 court date. Warrants were also obtained for Devon Michael Everette of Seaboard in the breaking and entering case.
