A candlelight vigil is planned Sunday night to honor the memory of Crystal Bell, who in June was found shot to death at an abandoned house in Northampton County.
Lieutenant Brenda Burnette of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office has organized the event and walk as a way to honor Bell and call attention to the case, which remains under investigation.
The walk starts at the intersection of Blythe Road and Macon Price Road in the Garysburg community at 7 p.m. “It’s a candlelight vigil for the family in her honor,” Burnette said. “Hopefully someone will come out for the family.”
Burnette said she continues to investigate the case with the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation. “There’s nothing I can share,” she said. “We’re following every lead to make sure every I’s dotted and T’s crossed.”
Anyone who wants to share their memories of Bell may do so, Burnette said.
Bell, 29 was found on the back deck of the house on Macon Price Road in the Garysburg area as firefighters were responding to a vehicle fire there.
They found her vehicle was on fire although the call was originally received as a house fire. The vehicle was engulfed in flames when firefighters from Gaston and Garysburg arrived.
Deputy J.T. Turner noticed Bell’s body on the back deck and called detectives. The SBI was also summoned to process the crime scene.
It was determined Bell was shot, although investigators declined to say how many times.
