The assault was videotaped — the video can be seen by scrolling down to the end of the story — by one of the people in the vehicle with Marcus Blount, 20, and his brother, Antonio Blount, 24.
The video was posted to YouTube and clearly shows the assault on the man, who rakes leaves in the area.
Roanoke Rapids Police Department Deputy Chief Tommy Hathaway said investigators learned of the video within the last five days and began an investigation.
That investigation culminated in the arrest of the Blount brothers — Marcus, who was charged with accessory after the fact and was the driver of the car and Antonio, who was charged with assault on a handicapped person. The men live in the 300 block of Madison Street.
Marcus was jailed on $1,500 bond and Antonio $2,000 bond.
Hathaway said the men claim the man was assaulted for retribution stemming from a previous matter involving a family member.
Hathaway praised the work of investigators for bringing charges in the case. “It’s tragic young men can’t find better things to do with their time,” he said. “I commend CID for their hard work in this matter.”
