Examination of the city’s storm drainage system Monday showed no major problems other than heavy sediment collected from alleys during a pounding Sunday morning rainstorm.

“There was no damage in the system,” Public Works Director Larry Chalker said this afternoon. “The effort is continuing through the week.”

Chalker said the heavy sediment that bled into the system is normal. “This was not a normal event. It was a flood. In a normal rain it would have carried just fine.”

The department is studying 12th Street, where a building has been flooded twice in a month. “We’ve got engineering looking at larger capacity. It’s not a quick solution. It’s one of the lowest in that general area. We feel for Mr. (Chris) Moseley. We hope to reach a solution. It’s not the norm.”

Meanwhile, Chalker said a problem area that was the subject of a potential lawsuit last year held. The area, in the back alley around Domino’s, had swales constructed to prevent businesses from becoming inundated. “It did excellent. We had guys over there (observing).”
