The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office last week seized more than 35 pounds of marijuana in two Scotland Neck locations.
Lieutenant Scott Hall said the investigation, which led to the arrest of 56-year-old William Grant Keeter, began from anonymous tips from the community.
Last Tuesday, agents A. Harris and J. Puhak, Deputy Jason Keeter and Major Mike Casey located 10 plants on Phillips Road. On Wednesday, Hall, Puhak and Deputy Keeter continued the investigation, which led to the search of Keeter’s residence on Douglas Hill Farm Road. There, seven additional plants as well as paraphernalia associated with growing were found.
Agents charged Keeter with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture marijuana and maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance.
Hall said the tax value of the plants, some which had been growing since March, was more than $80,000.
Keeter, who has been charged on marijuana counts in the past, was jailed on $50,000 and has an October 3 court date.
Hall praised the dogged work of his agents on the case. “After the discovery of plants it was very good investigation by agents to lead to other plants and the arrest of Mr. Keeter.”
