A statutory rape suspect, wanted since last month, was caught this afternoon hiding in a car he and another person were washing.

Eddie Boone was served a warrant for statutory rape and an outstanding warrant for driving while license revoked.

Bond was set at $151,000 — $150,000 for the rape and $1,000 for the driving while license revoked charge.

He has an August 22 court date.

A citizen spotted Boone as he and another person were washing a vehicle in the 300 block of Madison Street, according to Detective Jeff Baggett of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department. The citizen phoned authorities and Boone was found hiding in the vehicle.

Baggett said Boone had been lying low since completion of the investigation of the alleged crime, which occurred the last week of May.
