A registered sex offender has been charged with being within 300 feet of a school, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Detective R. Somogyi said he was conducting a breaking and entering investigation in the Enfield area Wednesday when he encountered Bryant O’Neil Conyers, a registered sex offender.

Investigation revealed Conyers was frequenting the area of an elementary school and residents allegedly saw him within 300 feet.

Somogyi said he was not sure why the man was allegedly loitering near the school.

Conyers was jailed on $1,000 bond and has a September 19 court date.
