Even Gary Hahn, longtime voice of the Wolfpack, has no doubt Jones Angell’s voice will become as iconic as the man’s he replaced last year — Woody Durham.
“Trying to follow a legend like Woody is tough,” Hahn said while introducing Angell today during a program sponsored by First Media Radio. “The more you listen to Jones, the more you’re going to like him. He’s going to put Woody in the rearview mirror.”
Angell, whose voice is heard on more than 50 stations in the Tar Heel Radio Network, spoke of the change. “It was such a big transition for us last year. After 40 years it really wasn’t hard. It was the class and dignity he showed.”
Said Angell, “He said, ‘Jones, I’m proud of you.’ It meant so much for him to say that.”
With Eric Montross as color commentator on basketball, Angell said, “We’ve kept an A-team together on radio.”
