An Illinois gold and silver buying company that has been rife with problems including bad checks and downsizing sent three Roanoke Rapids customers bounced checks from a show over the weekend.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said three complaints were received Wednesday from people attending a THR & Associates event at a local hotel that their checks were returned for insufficient funds.

The three checks totaled nearly $342, Jackson said.

The company, based in Springfield, Illinois, has not returned the police department’s calls, Jackson said, and the department continues to investigate.

Jackson said the department wants to hear from others who might have received bad checks from the company. They can also file report through the state Department of Justice.
