Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department declined to discuss details of the case but said investigators today, after an intensive investigation and consultation with the medical examiner, charged Jason Aaron Wallace, 29, of Sunnydale Drive, with involuntary manslaughter.

He was jailed on $25,000 bond and has a June 27 court date.

Kristian Renee Wallace, 27, also of Sunnydale Drive and Pamela Lynn Elrod, 41, formerly of Madison Street, face charges of accessory after the fact and were jailed on $10,000 bonds. They have June 27 court dates.

Jackson declined to elaborate on what led Jason Wallace to be charged and what led the two women to be charged.

He also declined to discuss the cause of Johnston’s death, only to say shortly after 2:30 the morning of his death, police responded to room 227 of the Carolina Inn where it was reported the 49-year-old Johnston had fallen and was not breathing.

He was taken by EMS to Halifax Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“We cannot discuss facts of the case,” Jackson said. “We do have a good solid case but are not going to discuss the facts. They will be presented in court.”
