A stop for a traffic infraction Thursday led to the seizure of 29 hits of crack and a handgun.

Deputy C.E. Carroll of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol in the area of East 12th Street and Highway 258 in Scotland Neck when he stopped a vehicle.

Carroll noticed a magazine with live rounds in the vehicle and called for assistance from the Scotland Neck Police Department.

Officers John Tippette and Doug Coley responded, along with Sergeant Greg Richardson of the sheriff’s office.

Lieutenant Bobby Martin said Carroll discovered a .40-caliber handgun as well as 29 hits of crack.

Fruiqwan Rodman, 23, of Scotland Neck, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was jailed on $10,000 bond and given a June 6 court date.

Carroll also charged Jeffrey Alston, 23, of Scotland Neck, with carry a concealed weapon.

He was jailed on $1,000 bond and also has a June 6 court date.

North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement also assisted.
