Another person has been charged in the Scotland Neck scrap metal theft case in which a town commissioner was arrested Wednesday.

Deputy E.C. Carroll of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said he served a warrant to Frederick Webb Jr., 75, of Scotland Neck, for the same charges Town Commissioner Forest Bradley Jr. faces, those counts being felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony possession of stolen goods, first-degree trespassing and two additional counts of felony larceny.

Carroll said investigation of the case began when he was called by one of the victims that scrap metal had been taken from the former Allsbrook Oil Company, which has been closed for the last 10 years.

The deputy said scrap metal and any other item that could be sold was being stolen and taken to a scrap metal yard in Edgecombe County.

Items were taken from the fenced-in area of the former oil distribution company as well items in inside storage areas. The property had been cleared of having any environmental hazards by the EPA, Carroll said.

Investigation revealed Bradley and Webb allegedly used equipment to load a 2-ton truck with items including eight oil drums, a metal cooking stove and refrigerator from the storage building.

Investigation also showed that five metal gas pumps, a metal Exxon sign, a canopy and metal sign were stolen as well as the following items:

• An oil broiler

• A hand pump

• Three oil tanks

• Brass fittings

• Metal loading rack steps

• Six fuel pumps

• Two motors that pumped fuel from tanks to trucks

• Two pieces of sheet metal

• Six loading swing arms

• One loading rack grate

• Two steel doors from the building that sealed the building that contained the other items stolen

All told, Carroll said, more than $11,000 worth of metal was stolen and at least five trips were made to the scrap yard in Princeville.

Like Bradley, Webb signed his own bond.

Meanwhile, as far as Bradley’s status on the town board seat goes, state laws dictate that a town commissioner has to be convicted of felony before they can be removed.
