The former manager of Ihrie Supply Company in Roanoke Rapids has been charged with 17 counts of larceny by employee.

The charges reflect an investigation that has been ongoing since last October when the credit manager of the company’s Wilson office notified police of shortages in inventory, cash and invoices that at the time totaled $76,934.

Since the investigation additional shortages were discovered that brought the total to $117,462, according to the Captain Andy Jackson.

Investigation by Detective Jeff Baggett has allegedly linked $29,662 worth of inventory and cash to John Edward Joyner Jr., 34, of Rocky Mount.

Jackson said investigation continues but thus far reveals that shortages resulted from cash transactions that were allegedly pocketed by Joyner.

In addition to the 17 counts, Joyner faces one count of obtaining property by false pretense from Roanoke Rapids and an outstanding order for arrest for possession of stolen property by the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office. That charge stems from a 2004 case involving a $9,500 Toro riding lawn mower.

Joyner was jailed on $32,000 bond and has a June 7 court date.
