Execution of a search warrant in Enfield last week led to the seizure of gang-related documents and about a quarter pound of marijuana.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Agent J. Puhak said the arrest of Donald Lashard Crews on March 8 made what he called a significant impact in the local drug trade and gang activity in the area.
He declined to elaborate on the type of documentation found on the alleged gang ties of Crews, 23.
Agents from the sheriff’s office conducted the search warrant at 413 Southeast Railroad Street in Enfield. The search warrant was the result of several months of investigation regarding complaints of narcotics and gang activity. Puhak declined to discuss how gang activity has manifested itself in the area.
The search did lead to the discovery of more than 100 grams of marijuana, which has a street value of about $500, Puhak said. It also led to discovery of a firearm and the documents in which Crews allegedly claimed allegiance to a gang.
Crews was charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was jailed on $2,000 bond and has an April 4 court date.
Narcotics agents, detectives and uniformed officers participated in the search.
