A Roanoke Rapids man was electrocuted Friday while apparently working on a microwave oven that was still plugged in.
Captain Jay Burch of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said law enforcement and EMS were called to Morgan Drive off Bolling Road shortly after 8:45 p.m. about an unresponsive male.
When detectives arrived EMS was loading the man, 32-year-old Renaldo Odelio-Enriquez Samayoa, into an ambulance. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Burch said detectives talked to the man's girlfriend who told them she walked in to find him lying on the floor and then went to a neighbor for help.
The neighbor, a nursing student with EMT training, administered CPR until EMS arrived.
Burch said investigators learned the microwave had not been working for two days and detectives found two screws on the table and the microwave, with its casing off, along with a screwdriver on the floor, evidence that Samayoa had apparently been trying to fix it.
