A Rocky Mount woman was pronounced dead at the scene following a single vehicle crash on Highway 4 outside Littleton Saturday night.

Sergeant R.E. Dudley of the state Highway Patrol said Lamika Renee Dawkins, 23, was traveling south on the highway above the posted speed 55 miles per hour limit when she entered a curve and lost control.

The 2001 Chrysler passenger car rotated left, hit a ditch bank, overturned and then hit a tree, trapping Dawkins, who was not wearing a seat belt.

It is unknown if alcohol was involved in the crash, which was reported around 8:50 p.m. nearly five miles outside of Littleton.
