A weapon with an altered serial number and marijuana were discovered when a Roanoke Rapids man walked quickly away from deputies on foot patrol on Oak Ridge Drive Tuesday night.
Lieutenant George Evans and Deputy J.M. Clark of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling the area when they saw Yaqel Lamar Davis, 18, walk quickly away from them when the officers spotted him.
Clark stopped him behind one of the apartment buildings and Evans saw the edge of a gun in the Davis’ coat pocket.
They found a small bag of marijuana and discovered the serial numbers on the weapon had been scratched off.
Davis was charged with carrying a concealed handgun, possession of a weapon with altered serial number and possession of marijuana.
He was jailed on $5,000 bond and has a February 2 court date.
